Arriving and Getting In

Bus Stop
The nearest bus stop to the Community Centre is just across the road on Rintoul Street – number 6119. Buses numbered 1 and 22 stop here. It has an awesome colourful covered bus stop, with a seat and a digital display to show you up to date information on when buses are due. If you can manage kerbs, simply cross the road and the Community Centre is right there. If kerbs are tricky, head down the road towards the intersection of Rintoul & Riddiford, turn left across Rintoul, then turn left again to head back up Rintoul. Cross Colombo St and the Community Centre is right there. There are kerb ramps with tactile markings at all the road crossings.

Stop number 6019 is also close by – on Riddiford St near the corner of Wilson St.

Car Parking
There is an access car park outside the Community Centre on Rintoul Street.

There is car parking in the surrounding streets – both "residents only" and free on street parking. Right outside is a few parks that are 10 minutes each.

Fixed Ramps to the Main Entrance
Our main entrance is wheelchair accessible via a ramp on the right side of the building (if you are looking straight at the building) The door opens automatically from the inside and out – there is a sensor, so it will open as you approach.

What's Inside the rest of the Community Centre?

Elevators and Upstairs Rooms

The second level of our building has an elevator. This level has two meeting rooms, a larger meeting/craft room and our own office and computer hub. The Justice of the Peace service also operates out of one of the smaller rooms. As does our volunteer-supported Help Desk service operating from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM each day.

The stairs have good handrails on both sides.

Accessible Toilets

There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor – there is a baby change station for parents in this room. There are four other single toilets and for any gender to use.

Getting Out Safely

Exiting the Building
The exits at the Community Centre are well sign-posted. Although there are a number of exits, there is only one step free exit at the front entrance.

We Have Moved!
As of September 30th, Smart Newtown has relocated from 9/11 Constable Street, next to the Newtown Library, to the Newtown Community Centre on the corner of Rintoul and Colombo Streets.

We are up the stairs inside the previous Wellington Timebank office. We'll still be offering all our current services, just in a different setting.

If you have trouble finding us, just drop by the Centre during opening ours and ask our reception staff to point you in the right direction.
